A 56-year-old Wichita attorney is sworn in as the newest member of the Kansas House of Representatives.

John Carmichael, a Democrat, took his oath of office Wednesday at the Statehouse. Carmichael fills the seat vacated by Rep. Nile Dillmore in the 92nd
House District.

Carmichael won a special election in September to fill Dillmore’s seat. He will face re-election in November 2014.

Carmichael is the former chairman of the Kansas Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. He is a graduate of Wichita State University and the University of Kansas.

Legislators will start the 2014 session on Jan. 13.
