Jayhawks advance in Battle for Atlantis

Kansas KU Jayhawk

Andrew Wiggins scored 17 poins as the Kansas Jayhawks fought off a comeback attempt by Wake Forest in an 87-78 victory in the first round of the Battle for Atlantis Thursday in the Bahamas.

The Jayhawks took a 40-26 lead at halftime but coach Bill Self got disgusted with his starters when the Demon Deacons mounted a comeback that brought them to within five at one point.  He brought in five new players and didn’t put the starters back in until the six minute mark, at which point the Jayhawks were able to hit enough free throws to hold Wake at bay.  Frank Mason scored 13 and Jamari Traylor ten for the Hawks coming off the bench. KU shot 26-38 from the foul line compared to 18-29 for Wake Forest.  The Demon Deacons were led by Codi Miller-McIntyre with 29 points. The Jayhawks moved to 5-0 on the season and meet Villanova in the semi-finals Friday night.  580 WIBW has the broadcast beginning at 7:00.
