Rodney McGruder’s three pointer at the buzzer gave Kansas State a 64-61 win at Baylor Saturday, keeping them tied with Kansas for the Big 12 lead.
The Cats had the ball after two Pierre Jackson free throws tied the game with :35 left and Shane Southwell missed a jumper with :03 left but Jacob Newbert fumbled the rebound out of bounds, giving the Cats a final shot, and McGruder made the Bears pay with his trey off the in-bounds pass from Angel Rodriguez.
McGruder led the Cats with 18 points. Rodriguez added 14 and Martaveous Irving 11. Jackson had 18 for Baylor and Isaac Austin had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Though K-State led through much of the second half the game was tight throughout.
The difference was K-State had seven made three pointers to six for Baylor, with McGruder’s final shot making the difference. The Cats are 13-3 in the Big 12 and play their final home game Tuesday against TCU.
