A fire overnight in Silver Lake has destroyed a home and now a family of six are homeless.
Fire crews from Silver Lake, Soldier Township and Rossville were called to the home in the 100 block of South Rice Road around 11:30pm Sunday night.
When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found the two-story home fully engulfed in flames. While on scene, pops and small explosions could be heard coming from the blaze.
Firefighters tell WIBW NewsNow that a family of six lived in the home. Two adults and four children.
The father was taken to the hospital with minor burns.
Firefighters are investigating what caused the fire. The Kansas State Fire Marshall has also been called to help with the investigation.
The American Red Cross has been called into help the family.
