Jarrod Dyson, Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon each drove in two runs and Jeremy Guthrie and two relievers combined on a seven hitter as the Kansas City Royals pounded Cleveland 9-0 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium Sunday.
The Royals drew six walks off Indians pitching and turned four of them into runs, starting in the second inning when Mike Moustakas drew the first of his three walks and scored on a double by Jeff Francoeur.
Dyson followed with a double for a 2-0 lead. He singled in Moustakas in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Escobar homered in the fifth, then drove in the first run in a three run seventh which was capped by a bases loaded walk to Moustakas.
Gordon hit a two run homer in the eighth to finish the scoring. Guthrie pitched six and two thirds innings to get his fourth win.
Tim Collins got the final out of the seventh and Luke Hochevar finished with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and getting five strikeouts. Justin Masterson took the loss.
