The Wendy’s High School Athletes of the Week are Shawnee Heights’ Madison Lysaught and Topeka High’s Austin Tillman.
Lysaught, a sophomore at Shawnee Heights, qualified for the 5A State tennis tournament by taking 2nd place at the 5A Regional on Saturday. She won her first two matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 after a first-round bye. In the final match, she met a familiar foe, but lost 6-2, 6-0. Despite not getting the regional championship she wanted, Lysaught qualified for State as an individual after qualifying last year in doubles. Click below to listen to her conversation with Ryan.
Tillman is a senior member of the Topeka High football team. He rushed for 92 yards, including a three-yard touchdown, and had one catch for 12 yards as the Trojans topped Emporia 21-17 on Friday. The victory ensured Topeka High at least a share of their second straight Centennial League title. Click below to hear his conversation with Ryan.
