You may have been watching 13 News on channel 12 for years. But if you’re a Cox Cable customer, that will change starting Thursday.
Cox announced that WIBW-TV will be moving channels in Topeka from 12 to 13 or 2013 in High Definition.
Mike Turner is the Operations Manager for WIBW-TV. “Recently we were informed by Cox that KSQA was going to be taking over the channel 12 position on their local cable system for Cox, and that because they were taking that channel that WIBW and some of the other station were going to have to move.”
KSQA currently broadcasts Country Music Videos on channel 12.
The station had filed a complaint with the FCC about Cox Communications not placing KSQA’s must-carry signal on channel 12. The FCC denied the complaint.
Cox said they will also be removing Kansas City stations KMBC and KCTV from their Topeka TV lineup.
Sarah Kauffman, spokesperson for the cable company says they are removing the KC channels because much of the programming on those channels are blacked out.
They believe that removing the channels will be more efficient for them to free up bandwidth, provide more channels, more HD channels, and high internet speeds.
