Tournament basketball got underway in earnest and there was action in the pool and on the mat last night.
BOYS BASKETBALL – TOURNAMENTS
Topeka Invitational at Hayden: Topeka West and Highland Park advanced to the semifinals. The Chargers rallied from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat St. Marys 75-71 in overtime, and the Scots held off KC Washington 47-42. Hayden suffered a 62-46 loss to Lawrence while Topeka High dropped a heartbreaker to Wichita Northwest, 75-73.
McPherson Invitational Tournament: Seaman scored the second most points they have scored in a game this season but were still no match for a powerful Derby team, falling 77-58.
Dodge City Tournament of Champions: The Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds were rude guests in their opening game, routing hosts Dodge City 59-36.
Colby Orange and Black Invitational: Highland Park dropped a 52-40 decision to Goodland in their opening-round game.
Washburn Rural took home a pair of dual wins over Olathe South and Olathe Northwest, leaving them unbeaten in dual competition for the season. Results of their dual with Olathe Northwest are below:
The Topeka West triangular was postponed to next Tuesday, January 28.
Topeka High and Topeka West competed at the Lawrence Invitational. The Trojans placed third out of six teams while the Chargers placed fifth.
