Ag Economist Nigel Key with the USDA’s Economic Research Service was the guest on Friday morning’s Ag Issues program on 580 WIBW. Key is also the lead author of the recently released study Financial Conditions in the U.S. Agricultural Sector: Historical Comparisons. Key talked how the current agriculture financial conditions compare to past downturns within the last 50 years. He also talked about which size and commodity categories of farms are most vulnerable to financial stress. Key also discussed a theoretical component of the study that projects which of the various farm categories would be most vulnerable to financial stress if farm income dropped another 10 to 20 percent in the next few years.
