Arrest made in aggravated battery, theft case in Topeka

A man who police say stole items from a Topeka Dollar General on Saturday and then kept them by brandishing a weapon was arrested on Monday.

Police say they were called just before 5 p.m. Saturday to what was reported as a robbery of the Dollar General at 2042 NW Topeka Boulevard.

After talking to employees, they learned that a white male came to the store and began to conceal items inside his clothing. The man went out the door and failed to pay for the items. Staff attempted to stop the man and he pulled out a weapon.

He left riding a bicycle. On Monday, officers were told that the same man was in the area of the 100 block of NW Jackson on the same bicycle. He was then taken in for questioning.

After the interview, 49-year-old Shane Frye was taken to jail on two aggravated assault charges and a theft charge.
