AUDIO: Jayhawks Speak Before Fan Day

On Saturday Kansas football held a series of events at the program’s facilities, including “Fan Day,” an opportunity for Jayhawk faithful to come out to the new KU practice facility, meet players and fans and get ready for the 2019 season. Before Fan Day kicked off, though, coach Les Miles and a handful of players spoke to the media.

With exactly three weeks to go before KU opens the season at home against Indiana State, Miles and his staff ramped up the intensity during a weekend scrimmage. Miles said he liked what he saw from the Jayhawks in practice on Saturday, singling out the running backs group and the secondary as a couple groups he’s been pleased with. He also discussed the quarterback battle between junior Thomas MacVittie and senior Carter Stanley, saying the starting job will be determined naturally, not with a set date.

As for the aforementioned running backs, junior Dom Williams spoke on Saturday as well and discussed the outlook for himself, senior Khalil Herbert and sophomore Pooka Williams. He commented on the energy in practice this year compared to those past as well, highlighting the desire to win as a major change.

Junior wide receiver Stephon Robinson and junior linebacker Dru Prox spoke about their position groups as well, plus what they’re expecting as individuals this coming season. Prox was another player Miles mentioned as one who has impressed him during camp.

Media day for the Jayhawks is coming up on Aug. 16, when Miles, assistant coaches and a bevy of players will speak and preview the 2019 campaign before the season opener.
