This week’s Azura Credit Union Athletes of the Week are Highland Park junior basketball player CJ Powell and Topeka West sophomore wrestler Bri Randles.
Powell is the leading scorer for a Highland Park team that has already quadrupled their win total from last season, going 12-3 and sitting half a game back of the Centennial League lead. The 6’7″ junior averaged over 20 points per game at the Topeka Invitational Tournament in helping his team to a third-place finish and had 21 points in last Friday’s win over Topeka West. We spoke to CJ about getting to play at home, the first time he dunked, his aspirations as a player, and more.

Randles won the 130-pound championship at the first ever Centennial League girls wrestling championships last Saturday, and was named the event’s most outstanding wrestler. The sophomore has compiled a record of 20-1 on the season, including her three wins at the league championships, all by pinfall. We spoke to Bri about growing up in an athletic family, the first season of girls wrestling sanctioned by KSHSAA, and more.
