This week’s Azura Credit Union Athletes of the Week are Shawnee Heights sophomore wrestler Brock Ferguson and Washburn Rural junior wrestler Daija Anderson.
Ferguson helped his Thunderbird team capture their second United Kansas Conference championship in as many seasons on Saturday. He placed first in the 113-pound class, winning all three of his matches by pinfall to improve his record on the season to 32-3. He will be seeking a second straight trip to state, as he qualified as a 106-pounder as a freshman last year and went 2-2. We spoke to Brock about winning the league again, his pre-match preparation, his motivation to get back to state, and more.

She was one of three Rural girls to place first in her class, taking home the 235-pound crown. Anderson won her first three matches by pin and her final match by decision. She is now 26-1 in her first season of wrestling. We spoke to Daija about competing at the first girls wrestling regionals, what drew her to the sport, and more.
