The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the Osage County Rural Water District No. 8 public water supply system, located in portions of Wabaunsee and Shawnee Counties. The areas affected are generally between Highway 4 on the south, NW West Union Road on the east, the Kansas River on the north, and Echo Cliff Road on the west, this does include the City of Willard. The advisory is not related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:
The advisory took effect on August 10, 2020, and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE issued the advisory because of a scheduled valve replacement that will cause a loss of pressure in the system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.
Regardless of whether the public water supplier or KDHE announced a boil water advisory, only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.
