Chiefs Win AFC Title Game and are Super Bowl Bound

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl bound.

It took 50 years and 800 football games played between Super Bowl IV and now Super Bowl XLIV.

The Kansas City Chiefs raised the Lamar Hunt Trophy as AFC Champions with their 35-24 win over the Tennessee Titans from Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Patrick Mahomes tip-toed down the sideline for a game-turning touchdown, added three TD passes  as he took everyone in the Chiefs Kingdom on his back.

Mahomes did his usual superb job passing, but it was his 27-yard tap dance down the left sideline late in the first half that gave the Chiefs their first lead. From there, they outran the run-oriented Titans and star back Derrick Henry.

From the second quarter to the end of the game Kansas City outscored Tennessee 28-7.

The Chiefs held the Titans offense to just 295 total yards and just 85 yards rushing. The Titans lead back, Derrick Henry, had just 69 yards rushing.

Mahomes and the Chiefs tallied 404 yards with Mahomes throwing for 294 and rushing for 53.

It was eerily similar to the Divisional round game against the Texans as the Chiefs got down 10-0 and 17-7 early before the offense took over and the defense locked things down.

Kansas City lead at the half 21-17 and it was a scoreless third quarter but the Chiefs put the hammer down in the fourth quarter.

Damian Williams made it 28-17 with a three yard touchdown run that was part of a 13 play drive that took over 7:00 minutes of the clock.

The Titans had the ball just twice in the quarter

Sammy Watkins sealed the deal on a 60 yard touchdown reception to make it 35-17 with just over seven minutes to go in the game.
