Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to show people the cause you care about and you can do that through Facebook.
“Facebook and Instagram have become the destination to give back during the holidays and beyond, said Roya Winner, Communications Manager for Social Impact at Facebook. “This year, we’re matching up to $7 million on Facebook for Giving Tuesday fundraisers. I have to tell you, it’s my favorite day of the year on Facebook, because people really show up and rally their friends and family for the nonprofits and causes they care about.”
There are over 1 million nonprofits that can fundraise on Facebook.
“If you are passionate about something, if there’s a cause you care about, there is likely a nonprofit that represents it,” said Winner. “You can pop on to our fundraising tool and search for the nonprofit
or search even for the kind of cause category. You never know, that local cat shelter down the street from your house may be eligible for fundraisers, or if not, you could look at the ASPCA, for example,
which is a national nonprofit focused on animals.”
Facebook does look into the nonprofits it partners with to be sure your money is going to the cause you believe you are supporting.
“This is such an important piece of the puzzle when we’re looking at fundraisers,” said Winner. “We want donors and fundraiser creators to have the peace of mind that the fundraisers that they’re running are going to the right organization,” said Winner. “We work with Network for Good, which is powered also with GuideStar to make sure that these organizations are vetted. We have our own vetting process to make sure all nonprofits are a 501(c)3 in good standing and they’re a legitimate organization.”
Last Giving Tuesday, people raised $125 million on Facebook via its fundraising tools.
