Devon Dotson (Kansas) picked up his second Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award of the season while Terrence Shannon, Jr. (Texas Tech) was recognized with his first Freshman of the Week honor. Dotson’s accolade was the third of his career.
Dotson averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals with a 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in Kansas’ two victories. His nine assists against Milwaukee (12/10) were a career high. The sophomore guard leads the Big 12 in scoring at 19.6 ppg and ranks among the conference leaders in field goal percentage (fourth), assists (sixth), free throw percentage (fourth) and steals (third). Dotson has scored 10 or more points in 16 straight games dating back to last season.
Shannon scored 13 points in Texas Tech’s 70-57 win over No. 1-ranked Louisville last Tuesday at the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden. He hit four shots and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to help knock off the previously unbeaten Cardinals. The freshman guard is now averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds through the first nine games of his collegiate career. Shannon is the third Red Raider to earn newcomer honors this season.
