A grass fire in southeast Kansas Elk County took into early Wednesday morning to bring under control.
According to a Facebook post from the Elk County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch was called around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for an out of control grass fire at Angus and Road 25 just south of Longton.
Fire crews from Chautauqua County, Montgomery County, Labette County, Greenwood County, Wilson County, and several townships responded with fire trucks.
The fire was assisted by sustained winds of 50 miles per hour with higher gusts. It took until 3 a.m. Wednesday to get it under control. Firefighters will continue to monitor hot spots through the morning.
