Emporia State’s Tyra Jones and Washburn’s Reagan Phelan were were named co-athletes of the week by the MIAA. Jones has been tabbed with the association’s weekly honor for the second consecutive week and third time this season. For Phelan, it is her first athlete of the week award this season.
Jones averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Hornets went 2-0 last week. She had her third straight double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Emporia State’s 77-71 win at No. 23 Pittsburg State on Wednesday, January 23. Jones then had 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks in ESU’s 76-61 win at Missouri Southern.
Phelan helped Washburn to a pair of road wins over Missouri Southern and No. 23 Pittsburg State. She averaged a team-high 19 points and made 14-of-22 from the field including 8-of-13 from the three-point arc while rounding out her stats with 5.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game.
Against MSSU, Phelan was 7-for-10 from the floor, 4-of-6 from the three-point line and dished out seven assists. Phelan followed up by netting a game-high 18 points at 23rd-ranked Pittsburg State, including 11 fourth-quarter points. She was 7-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-7 from behind the arc with four assists.
Morgan Fleming – Central Missouri
Fleming played a big role in the Jennies only game of the week. She recorded her second career double-double and first this season scoring 21 points with 11 boards in UCM’s 75-63 win over Southwest Baptist. She did most of her damage behind the three-point line where she went 4-for-6, but she was also a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line. Fleming also dished out four assists and came away with a steal in the win.
Tatyana Legette – Fort Hays State
Legette averaged a double-double in a pair of home wins last week, totaling 12.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest. The senior matched her career-high with 15 rebounds against Missouri Western on Thursday, January 24 before posting 16 points and 10 rebounds against Northwest Missouri on Saturday, January 26.
