Gas prices still good compared to the rest of the country

The average Kansas gas price is still just below $2.00 a gallon.

“Kansas gas prices are up a couple of cents,” said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. “We’re at $1.99 a gallon on average across the state right now.”

Kansas is one of the best places in the country to fill up.

“It’s still really good from a national perspective,” said Steward. “We’re 28 cents less than the national average and 7th cheapest in the United States.”

The reason for the slight increase is the fundamental cost of getting the oil out of the ground.

“We could be seeing the start of a trend here towards increasing prices at the pump,” said Steward. “Crude oil prices have been on the rise. They’re up about 5 dollars a barrel since the beginning of this year.”

The poor weather may actually help at the moment to reduce demand and slow the rise of prices for now.
