Authorities say a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper shot the male driver of a car he had just stopped near downtown Topeka.
Both the trooper and driver were taken to a local hospital, but their conditions weren’t immediately available.
Melissa Underwood, spokeswoman for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, says the trooper was injured during the encounter, but he was not shot.
The incident unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday in an industrial area that sees little vehicle traffic.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the incident involved shots being fired by the trooper. The KBI is investigating.
