Lawrence man shot during burglary, suspect on the loose

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE LAWRENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Just before 4 p.m. yesterday, Lawrence police officers responded to a shooting at the 2300 block of Wakarusa Drive.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim told authorities that he arrived at his home to find a supsect attempting to burglarize the residence.  The suspect is a white male and was wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

While fleeing the scene, the suspect fired a weapon that he was attempting to steal from the victim’s home.  That weapon was left on the premises.  The suspect fled the residence east on foot.

There have been no arrests, and the incident is still under investigation.
