NORAD Tracks Santa for 64th Year

If you want to track Santa this Christmas Eve, it’s easy to do.

“There are many ways you can get in touch with us,” said Major Andrew Hennessy with NORAD. “The website is noradsanta.org, there you can follow our tracker. You can download our app on IOS and Android. You can call us. Our operations center here at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs is live and the number is 1-877-HI-NORAD or 1-877-446-6723.”

You can also ask your smart speaker to tell you where Santa is. That’s a little different than it was when the tradition started.

“Tracking Santa actually predates NORAD,” said Hennessy. “NORAD is a binational Canadian and American aerospace defense command since 1958, but we’ve been tracking Santa since 1955. It all started with an ad in a local Colorado Springs newspaper. A child phoned the ad. He thought he was going to be talking to Santa. He ended up talking to a colonel who was in the operations center on duty that night.”

Hennessy anticipates Santa over the U.S. mainland sometime between 9 p.m. and midnight tonight.
