All summer long on Tuesday’s till the end of August, 580 Sports Talk will bring you former Shawnee County High School athletes that have stood out from the rest of their peers in their college and or pro careers across the country.
Our first “Where are They Now?” athlete was Highland Park ,Missouri State and now playing basketball professional in France, Kyle Weems
Our third athlete was former Silver Lake High School football standout Peter Pfannenstiel, who currently plays for Washburn University as a redshirt freshman, is heading to Kuwait to play for the US Under 19 football team.
Our fourth athlete is former Shawnee Heights and Wichita State pitcher Jordan Cooper. Cooper is currently playing for the Cleveland Indians minor league AA affiliate in Akron, Ohio. Cooper at the time of the interview was 6-1 for the Rubberducks.
Our seventh athlete is former Washburn Rural Junior Blue and Washburn All-American Trey Lewis.
Lewis was a force for the Washburn football team from 2003-2006. Lewis played right away as a true freshman for the Ichabods after a very successful high school career. Lewis earned first team honors in 2005 and then in 2006 earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and was a consensus All-American. Lewis became the first Ichabod to be named to the Associated Press Little All-American team since 1963.
Lewis was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 6th round, being the 185 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He is the fourth Washburn University player ever to be drafted to an NFL team.
Lewis played for the Falcons from 2007-2010.
Lewis came on 580 Sports Talk to recap his NFL career, share some stories of what training camp was like, the adjustment going from a division II school to the NFL and what he is currently doing since retiring from football.
