Today marks the first stop on our Shawnee County Football Tour for the 2019 season, as we check in with the Hayden Wildcats and head coach Bill Arnold.
LAST YEAR: The Wildcats went 7-3 last season, winning a district championship in Class 3A but falling to Marysville in the Regional round of the playoffs. They return 30 lettermen from that squad, including nine starters from a defense that allowed 13 total points in their five district victories last season and posted three shutout victories.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior lineman Andrew Schmidtlein, a steady presence in the Wildcats lineup in his career, will open holes for Hayden’s ground attack on offense and disrupt the opponents on defense. Junior Desmond Purnell is a two-way standout at running back and outside linebacker. Junior Trey Pivarnik is hard to block off the edge on defense and his big frame makes him a weapon at tight end/wide receiver as well.
