The 2016-2017 high school athletic season wrapped up last week and we now look to recap and honor those who excelled in their respected sports as well as the classroom.
The 13th annual Shawnee County Sports Banquet will be on June 22nd at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. The banquet will start at 6:30 p.m. To get tickets call Visit Topeka at 785-234-1030.
The Shawnee County Sports Council will announce the winners of the respected seasons at the banquet as well as have the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees, Jocelyn Bentley, Mark Elliott and Gary Woodland, speak as they get inducted into the Shawnee County Sports Hall of Fame.
The nominees in the 10 categories come from all nine Shawnee County Schools. The categories are fall, winter and spring outstanding athletes for both male and female. A most inspirational for both male and female, and an overall most outstanding athlete for both male and female. The student athletes must be a senior in high school, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and must have demonstrated excellence in sports during the 2015-2016 school year.
