Shooting in Topeka Monday night leads to one arrest

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE TOPEKA POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Monday evening around 7:30 p.m., Topeka police officers responded to several reports of multiple gunshots.

Officers located a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire at SW 6th and SW Fillmore.  Officers also discovered an adult male with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.  The vehicle contained a significant amount of illegal drugs.

This incident centered on an attempted sale of illegal drugs that resulted in a robbery attempt which culminated in the shooting.

The shooting victim, 19-year-old Amari L. Wilkerson of Topeka, was released from a local hospital, arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for criminal charges of Obstruction of Justice and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
