“Tent City” to be shut down, estimated 60 homeless people must relocate

According to a release from The Topeka/Shawnee County Homeless Task Force, homeless residents of “Tent City” will soon have to relocate.

Railroad-owned properties in the area will be enforcing a statute regarding trespassing on railroad property starting on March 2nd.  An estimated 60 people will have to relocate their camps or find alternative shelter.

The task force says the are helping assess the need for emergency shelter and transitional housing for those that will be moving.

“HTF felt it was imperative to share this information with our community in a timely manner,” said Corrie Wright, HTF Chair. “We have been working with community partners to notify those affected and we will continue to do so in the coming days.”
