Third suspect arrested in killing of Topeka teen in July

A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Joaquin Aj McKinney in July.

Lavonte D. Johnson was captured in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, about 45 minutes south of Little Rock on Tuesday and taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement on a Shawnee County warrant for first-degree murder and criminal use of a weapon.

As of Thursday morning, Johnson was in the Pulaski County, Arkansas Detention Center, awaiting extradition back to Kansas.

Danny Kay Williams and Zachary Jacob McFall are both already facing first-degree murder charges in McKinney’s death as well as criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

On July 25, officers found McKinney badly injured in his car, which had crashed near the intersection of SE 37th and Pennsylvania St.

He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
