Washington Post Opinion Piece Tries to Fan Flames Regarding Potential Pompeo U.S. Senate Run

An article on the Washington Post’s website published Thursday is looking once again at the idea of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s potential run for a Kansas U.S. Senate seat.

The evidence cited in the opinion piece written by columnist Josh Rogin is a new personal Twitter account recently launched by Pompeo separate from his official State account.

There are also whispers that Pompeo may want to run for President in 2024 and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is said to be advising Pompeo that the Kansas seat is a better launching pad than State.

The filing deadline for the race isn’t until June, but there is already a robust field of Republicans vying for the seat currently held by the retiring Pat Roberts along with Democrat Barbara Bollier.

Rogin notes that McConnell is concerned that former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach could win a primary and lose the general election to Bollier.

President Donald Trump has indicated that he would encourage Pompeo to run if he thought Republicans could lose the seat.
