A woman who was charged with filing a false report of rape is suing the city of Lawrence, several police officers, and the University of Kansas.
The woman reported the rape to Lawrence police in September 2018, but later decided she did not want to press charges.
She was charged in 2019 with filing a false rape report.
District Attorney Charles Branson said at the time the woman fabricated being raped out of regret and for revenge.
He dismissed the charges in October 2019, saying he was concerned publicity about the case would discourage others from reporting rapes.
The woman alleges in her lawsuit that Lawrence police were not adequately trained, and an unbiased investigation would have supported her allegations, The Lawrence Journal-World reported.
The complaint also alleges that the university didn’t investigate her reports of ongoing harassment by the alleged perpetrator.
A spokesman for the city of Lawrence, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
The newspaper said the university did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
